The showcase was a washout. Had 10 kids attend the skills portion and
they all did well. Mitch Claxton was the only player to hit a HR
during the hitting portion. He also hit 90 mph during the pitching
portion. All the 25+ coaches were enamored with Seth Huxford's
movement on his 2 seemer, slider and change up. Steve Reed had the
best pop time for the catchers and he sprayed the ball all over the
place in hitting.

We got dimed by Plymouth 14-2 in the evening. Pretty classless group
from Plymouth. Running on a young team while up by 10 runs. I have a
long memory and payback will be coming.

Got rained out Saturday. Joel called off all games at 8:00 a.m. only
to have a beautiful day for baseball the rest of the day. We did play
at Penn HS in the evening, winning a 15-8 games against Washington high
school.

Got rained out again on Sunday at the Cove. Tried to play a double
header at Penn at 5 but the rains washed that out too

The Terre Haute Invitational is THE tournament to play in every year.
The competition is tremendous and the exposure for the kids is
fantastic. We ONLY had 9 kids for the ENTIRE tournament and the temps
were in the 90's with 90% humidity everyday. Just unbearable heat and
incredible guts and tenacity by the kids.

Thursday
We opened up against Evansville Pate Post 265 on Thursday evening.
Cameron Nord (LHP Northridge) pitched a complete game 5 hitter and
struck out 4 in the 6-3 loss. We had 4 errors which accounted for 5
unearned runs. Steven Reed (Concord) had 2 hits, including a solo home
run. Logan Draus (Concord) and Mitch Claxton (Concord) each had a
double.

Friday

Taylor Short (LHP Goshen), pitched a complete game 4 hitter, striking
our 5 as we defeated Madison Post 9, 3-1. Short also had 2 hits and 2
RBI's to help his cause. Logan Draus (Concord) had 2 hits including a
home run. Bristol turned 2 double plays behind Short to preserve the
win. This win assured us of playing on Sunday.

At 8:30, under the lights at Terre Haute North high school, in front of
450 fans, along with TV cameras and ESPN radio coverage, we took on the
host team, Terre Haute Post 346. Terre Haute has the consensus 2011
Mr. Baseball in A.J. Reed. He's a 6'5" LHP who as a 94-95 mph fastball
and is their 3 hitter. He's legit!! We countered with Seth Huxford
(Concord Junior to be) , a 6'4", RHP with great late movement on his
slider, curve and change up. A.J. Reed threw a 1 hitter and struck out
12. Steven Reed (Concord) broke up the no-hitter in the 6th with a
hard single between short and third, although Cameron Nord's
(Northridge) double in the fourth was ruled an error by the home town
offical scorer. Huxford threw a complete game 5 hitter (3 of which
were bunts) and struck out 5 as he continually kept Terre Haute off
balance with his cool presense on the mound. The scouts (pro and
college) came to see A.J. and left talking about Huxford.

Saturday

We played Lafayette Post 11 at 4:00. They threw a 6'4" RHP, Nick
Wittgren, who will pitch at Purdue next year. We countered with Jeremy
Jordon (RHP from Goshen). With the score tied 2-2, in the top of the
7th and Jeremy at 100 pitches in the heat, we made some pitching
changes. The 6 Division 1 college kids on Lafayette's team teed off on
the next three pitchers to put 8 earned runs on the board. It seemed
like every hit found a hole. We went quietly in the 7th for a 10-2
loss. Steven Reed and Mitch Claxton (both Concord) had 2 hits, as did
Brandon Weinkauf (Jimtown) and Logan Draus (Concord) had a double for
Bristol. It looked like we simply ran out of gas.

Sunday

We played Evansville Pate Post 265 in the consolation game at noon.
Having looked so tired in the Saturday afternoon loss, I was really
concerned about our level of play on Sunday. Joey Dobson (RHP Central)
threw a complete game 2 hitter and struck out 6, as we defeated
Evansville 4-1. Steven Reed (Concord) continued his hot hitting with 2
hits, including a 2 run Home Run in the 5th. Logan Draus (Concord) had
2 hits as did Taylor Short (Goshen) who also had a double. Draus was
instrumental in starting 3 double players and Cameron Nord (Northridge)
made several spectacular catches in centerfield throughout the
tournament.

Terre Haute went undefeated to win the tourney defeating Lafayette 8-2
and run their record to 13-2, while Lafayette's record was 11-2.
Bristol took 3rd place with a tournament record of 2-3 and a season
record of 4-4 and 7 (cancellations and rain outs). Evansville, which
came into the tourney 9-0, had a 1-4 tourney record and a 10-4 overall
record. Madison came into the tourney with a 6-1 record and left with
a 6-5 record going 0-4 in the tourney
